Daiyuzan Saijoji Temple 大雄山 最乗寺

A temple complex hidden in the middle of a cedar forest. It is a mystical place with gentle waterfalls, towering trees, mossy undergrowth and seemingly endless stairways to heaven. Tranquil and generally off the beaten tourist track, but well-known to locals and busy at the new year. Take time to explore the temple grounds and surrounding hiking trails, with paths leading to Myojingatake (明神ヶ岳) with views of Mount Fuji. Dog-friendly.
